A tarp with a sheet under it is fine, but if you can spare the change, get a real, outdoor storage motorcycle cover. I think California Car Covers carries universal sizes. If not, bite the bullet, pay a bunch of extra money for the name, and buy a BMW cover. Like all their other outdoor accessories (soft luggage, riding gear, etc), it should be well worth the money.

PS: My bike survives the winter just fine either under a plain old tarp or with no cover at all, even though it spent the last winter in a barn. Would have been better off uncovered outdoors, the wind will keep condensation from rotting out the exhaust system as quickly.
